Historie
Deutsch: Das von Walther Bergmann entworfene Wappen wurde am 3. September 1973 durch den Regierungspräsidenten von Köln verliehen. Es vereinigt die Symbole der ehemaligen Kreise Erkelenz und Selfkant. Der zwiegeschwänzte silberne Löwe auf rotem Grund war das Wappen der Herren von Heinsberg, der schwarze Löwe (Jülicher Löwe) stammt aus dem Wappen des Selfkantkreises und das Lilienkreuz mit der Flachsblüte entstammt dem Wappen des Kreises Erkelenz.
English: The arms were granted on September 3, 1973. The arms show in the upper part the silver lion of the Counts and city of Heinsberg and the black lion of the counts of Jülich (and the city of Geilenkirchen). The lower part is taken from the old arms of the county Erkelenz.
