English: Captain W.A. Bishop, V.C., Royal Flying Corps, who has up to this date shot down 37 German aircraft. William Avery "Billy" Bishop is in the cockpit of his Nieuport 17 fighter, 60th Squadron, Royal Flying Corps. The Nieuport's armament, a Lewis gun on a Foster mounting, is immediately above Bishop. At the time this photograph was taken in France in August, 1917, he had already shot down 37 German aircraft.
Français : Le capitaine W.A. Bishop, V.C., Royal Flying Corps, qui a, jusqu'à maintenant, abattu 37 avions allemands. William Avery « Billy » Bishop est dans le cockpit de son chasseur Nieuport 17, 60e Escadron, Royal Flying Corps. L'armement du Nieuport, un canon Lewis sur monture Foster, se trouve immédiatement au-dessus de Bishop.
