Hello, I am User:JLCA and I am the person who is responsible for the maintenance of the Religion Portal in the portuguese language wikipedia.
The Religion Portal began in February of this year, although they had been plans for this type of portal for a while. I had some doubts concerning the layout of the portal. First of all, I didn´t know what colour to choose; since some colours are associated with specific religions (for example, green with Islam), I tried to find a colour that wouldn´t be considered biased. The current colour we are using is blue, however I am still considering other colours.
I was looking to bring something new to this portal, besides the usual presentation of categories, featured article, featured photo, etc. For this reason I created a box dedicated to the religious calendar of several faiths (box "Calendário religioso" to the right of the screeen in the portal). In this box, each month, I make a reference to the most importal festivals in the major religious traditions.
The major problem concerning articles dealing with religion in our Wikipedia is a certain tendency to biased views. Some believers of an specific religion write their articles in a way that sometimes seems like they are trying to preach and convert people. This is mainly done by anonymous users. We obviously try to follow the neutral point of view policy in all our articles.
I would like to congratulate the Czech Wikipedia for this initiative and specifically user:Juan de Vojníkov, who I believe was the main organiser of this initiative. Best wishes, User:JLCA
