Execution at Basel of seven of the "ringleaders" of the Swiss peasant war of 1653 on July 24, 1653. Six were decapitated, one was hanged (Uly Schad, in the background right) at the gallows on the Gellert. ("Gellert" is the name of the hill.)[1]
